Message from the Mayor

It's a great time to live in Gardendale!  The city of Gardendale is growing and progress continues on every front - - from city services to commercial development to residential expansion.  I'm happy to bring you up to date on a few of the items that the council and I are very excited about.

The city council is following through on our commitment to enhance our fire and rescue service.  In order to provide better service to our citizens, we now have 15 full time firefighter/rescue personnel and 5 volunteer personnel.  These personnel are essential in keeping response time to a minimum and covering our continually growing city.  Our city limits have expanded with annexations and homes popping up in every direction.  The city now encompasses over 57 square miles compared to 47 square miles five years ago.  The City is working diligently with developers to occupy the Caufield Square project that was put on the market by the developer.  Although this is private property, we are working with the sellers to help them bring in some wonderful retail businesses to Gardendale.

A drive down Main Street or Mt. Olive Road will prove that the Jefferson County Board of Education is busy preparing for our new High School with phase I being completed in 2009.  A new Media Center at the Elementary School and a new Field House at the High School is proof that the BOE is working to create a better atmosphere for education and recreation in Gardendale.

Gardendale is also excited about the new Medical Clinic that has brought some of the best physicians in Birmingham to our City.  The clinic has been a great asset to the city in providing state of the art health care and we are excited that a new Surgi Center is underway which will be a great convenience for our citizens to have out patient procedures and surgeries here in Gardendale by elite professionals without having to venture into metro Birmingham for the same services.  There is promise of future growth in this area.  The council has worked hand in hand with these professionals to expand their services to our citizens and all citizens of North Jefferson County.

The City Council and I appreciate your encouragement tremendously as we strive to guide the progress occurring in our wonderful city.  We are blessed to have supportive citizens, excellent businesses, and dedicated employees helping us along the way.
