Under the supervision of Robert Ryant, Building Inspection Superintendent, the Inspection Department's staff assists those applying for building permits and follows through with the inspection of new construction, additions, renovations, and alterations.

The mission of the Building Inspection Departmentis to create and maintain a safe and healthy environmentby reasonable enforcement of the codes, providingefficient customer service, and ensuring qualityin the design, construction, and use of propertieswithin the city. This is done through review of requestsfor permits, confirming compliance with all localcodes and ordinances, inspection of new constructionprojects and inspection of existing buildings forcode compliance, and issuance of licenses and constructionpermits.

• Residential and non-residential new construction permits are based on square footage and construction costs: $7.00 per $1,000.00 + $25.00 Issue Fee.
• Permits are also necessary for alterations, additions, and renovations such as garages, utility buildings, room additions, decks, etc.
• The Inspection Services Department also handles all matters concerning zoning.
