Under the supervision of Robert Ryant, Building Inspection Superintendent, the Inspection Department's staff assists those applying for building permits and follows through with the inspection of new construction, additions, renovations, and alterations.

The mission of the Building Inspection Department is to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment by reasonable enforcement of the codes, providing efficient customer service, and ensuring quality in the design, construction, and use of properties within the city. This is done through review of requests for permits, confirming compliance with all local codes and ordinances, inspection of new construction projects and inspection of existing buildings for code compliance, and issuance of licenses and construction permits.

Permits are necessary so that we can help you complete your project and meet certain safety and legal issues. This website is a guide to help you better understand the necessary steps in getting a permit for just about any project you might do or have done.

  • Residential and non-residential new construction permits are based on square footage and construction costs: $7.00 per $1,000.00 + $25.00 Issue Fee.
  • Permits are also necessary for alterations, additions, and renovations such as garages, utility buildings, room additions, decks, etc.
  • The Inspection Services Department also handles all matters concerning zoning.
