Elections were held on August 26 for mayor and city council members of the City of Gardendale. Two of the six positions were elected without a runoff. In Ward 1 Peggy Tumlin was elected to a third term, while in Ward 4 Faith Harper was elected to her first term.  

 Four of the six positions in the August 26 elections resulted in a runoff. The winning candidates in the runoff elections held on October 7 were Othell Phillips (Mayor - 1st term), Gary Morris (Ward 2 - 4th term), Alvin Currington (Ward 3 - 1st term), and Wendell Phillips (Ward 5 - 2nd term).
