Under
the direction of Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Stan
Hogeland, our employees strive to provide the citizens of
Gardendale attractive, well maintained facilities. Our parks
are strategically placed throughout the city, most within
walking distance of large subdivisions.
At
G. William
Noble Park, there are 6 baseball fields, one football field,
8 tennis courts and 3 playgrounds. Also, pavilions and a
converted house (Park Place) are available to rent for
birthday parties, showers, etc.
At
Luman
Harris Park, located off of Pineywood Road, we are proud to
offer an entire park dedicated to girls' softball. With 4
fields and a playground, it is also a great place for
families to enjoy on the weekends.
The Mini
Park, located off of
Keith Circle, offers a playground and
basketball court in a quiet, shaded area.
Our newest
facility is our
Soccer
Complex located off of Fieldstown Road. There are 2
regulation soccer fields and a walking track.
Celebration Park was added in May of 2007 and "Splash
Pad" and "Miracle League Field" will be added soon. There is room to
expand this facility and plans are being drawn to make this
park our "showplace".
With all of
the youth programs associated with these parks, it would not
be possible without the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who
participate in various associations. Our extreme
appreciation goes out to all of these people.
Also, one of
our department’s main attributes is our ongoing efforts in
beautification and landscaping throughout the city. We have
planted approximately 2,500 crape myrtles along with several
other species of trees and shrubs. As a participant in the
"America in Bloom" program, our city has been recognized
nationally for our beautification efforts.
We would like to invite you
to visit all of our parks and we welcome suggestions in
making our parks, and our department, the very best they can
be.
